August 20, 2009 - PureSpectrum, Inc. joins international movement to provide high quality CFLs in Asia

Manila Compact quality assurance program includes other

lighting industry giants GE, Philips and OSRAM

SAVANNAH, GA – As part of the company’s ongoing efforts to support standardization for high performance energy efficient lighting internationally and claim international market share for energy efficient lighting, PureSpectrum, Inc. (Pink Sheets: PSPM) has joined the movement to formalize specifications and improve overall quality for Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) in Asia.

Alongside other global lighting leaders such as General Electric, Philips and OSRAM/Sylvania, PureSpectrum signed a memorandum of understanding referred to as the Manila Compact which is sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Asian Development Bank and was initially introduced during the Asia Clean Energy Forum in 2008.

The initial outline for the key tenets of the Manila Compact was created with the support of USAID and the Australian government under the umbrella of the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate (APP). PureSpectrum was introduced into the Manila Compact by its international marketing partner, Global Initiatives, and will be considered a founding member of the movement.

There are currently a wide range of unaligned standards and specifications for CFLs being distributed in Asian countries. According to a report by USAID’s ECO-Asia Clean Development and Climate Program, half of the CFLs in Asia are of substandard quality. Consumer dissatisfaction with inferior products is threatening the increasing growth of energy efficient lighting products in Asia, and the Manila Compact is designed to establish common performance standards and specifications to ensure high overall quality for CFLs for Asian consumers.

Our market driven product development philosophy makes the consumer the first priority, and the Manila Compact is striving to protect the consumer,” said PureSpectrum president and CEO Lee Vanatta. “Having the opportunity to be associated with the promotion of high performance, environmentally friendly and energy efficient lighting products through the Manila Compact will enhance brand exposure and recognition in Asia and provide us with multiple platforms for qualified introductions to licensing and distribution channels across the region.”

By joining the movement to ensure high quality CFLs in Asia, PureSpectrum will be  included in the program’s product registry provided to distributors and be allowed to display a logo on all products that will signify certification through the Manila Compact, giving the company a competitive advantage for retail distribution throughout Asia. Additionally, PureSpectrum will be included in the Asia Lighting Council’s program launch for the Manila Compact partners in October at the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair.
